When our local leaders engage a new group of pastors or leaders, they tell the story from Mark 8:31-9:1. In this story Jesus explains to his disciples that a glimpse of the Kingdom of God will be revealed to them here on earth. We ask our leaders, “Do you want to see the kingdom of God come to your community?” Desiring and praying that God’s sovereignty, authority, power, and glory will come to their community, they begin the first step in seeing transformation!
This month we will highlight the country of Laos. Our country coordinator, BL, desires God's glory to transform his people and he is sharing with others faithfully. BL and his wife, Buawon, have 4 children of their own and 6 adopted children. They survive on a modest income from vegetables sold in the local market. They live in a country that is hostile to the church of Jesus Christ. Just this week one pastor friend of BL's was commanded to renounce his faith. He refused and the officials burned down his house. This is the type of persecution faced by BL and the body of Christ in their country.
BL and B need your prayers. Laos is one of the poorest countries in the world with a population of 7.6 million people. There are 3 primary languages spoken in Laos: Lao, Hmong, and Khmu and over 80 other village languages used. BL has four leaders whom he has trained in the OSP methods of storytelling. In April, our directors will travel to Laos to help BL train 15 new leaders to join him in his efforts to make Jesus known! These local leaders have weekly meetings to share stories in their villages. BL travels to many areas to pray with others and share God's stories of hope.
Recently, BL was praying for S, a man in a nearby village who has suffered with health problems for years. He had never heard about Jesus and BL shared with him the story of the "Bleeding Woman" from Mark 5. After hearing the story of her faith in Jesus, S wept and asked Jesus to be his Lord. Please pray for BL as he continues to serve the Lord among his people.
We want to close with an explanation of our ministry name: OSP, International. This is an abbreviation for “Oral Scripture Projects.” Approximately 80% of the world’s population identifies as oral learners, meaning they prefer oral or spoken methods of communication rather than the written word. Our people groups in Asia Pacific are storytelling peoples! Thus, Oral Scripture Projects is the method we use to reach them with the hope of Jesus Christ.
Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for BL and B as they make preparations for our directors, Ryder and G, to join them for a training session April 22-26. Please pray for God's protection, open hearts, clear communication and understanding. Pray that God's Spirit will guide and teach them so that God's glory, authority, and power will come to the Laotian people.
2. Pray for the leaders and believers in Thailand, Cambodia, India, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, and Myanmar.
3. Praise God for the 5 prayer groups that will meet monthly to pray for our leaders and the countries to whom we serve. We are so thankful for the leaders of these prayer groups. If you are interested to join one of these groups or begin your own, please contact Beth at beth@ospinternational.org. She would love to get you plugged in!
4. Praise the Lord for the 5 people who have agreed to serve as our board of directors! We need this accountability and are so thankful to have these men walk alongside us at OSP.
5. Our financial budget for the projects in Laos this year is $13,950. Would you be willing to give to God's work in Laos? Please pray for this need and contact Ryder at ryder@ospinternational.org if you want to give. To God be the glory!
To the ends of the earth,
Ryder and Beth
