OSP Cambodia Project:
Healing Through Story
Project Statement
The Oral Scripture Project (OSP) Cambodia aims to bring healing, hope, and lasting transformation by equipping local leaders to form and multiply Oral Scripture Groups (OSGs) in Khmer and Kuay communities. Through culturally relevant oral Bible stories and Spirit-led discipleship, OSGs offer people a way to encounter God’s Word in their heart language and natural learning style.

Context and Need
Cambodia is a nation of 18 million people, where only 3% identify as Christian. The lingering effects of the Khmer Rouge genocide—which claimed the lives of 2 million people—still weigh heavily on communities. Trauma, spiritual confusion, and poverty persist, especially in rural areas. With Buddhism as the dominant religion and oral tradition as the primary form of communication, traditional teaching methods often fall short.
Most Cambodians learn best through hearing and discussion. That’s why OSP focuses on forming OSGs—small groups that meet regularly to listen to, discuss, and obey Scripture told through well-crafted oral stories. These groups provide a safe space for people to grow in faith, heal from past wounds, and be empowered to share the gospel naturally within their families and communities.

Project Summary
This 12-month project will train 16 local leaders (8 Khmer, 8 Kuay) to form two OSP story crafting teams. These teams will develop 32 culturally relevant Bible stories—16 in each language—using OSP’s five-part story crafting method. The method includes five elements: Introduction, Beginning Conflict, Rising Conflict, Climax & Resolution, and Closing. Each story is simplified for oral learners, reviewed in community, and designed to be retold with clarity and emotional impact.
Once approved, the stories will be recorded in audio form and used in the formation and leadership development of OSGs. By the end of the project, we aim to establish 30 OSGs across Khmer and Kuay-speaking communities, empowering grassroots leaders to multiply discipleship in their own cultural context.

Expected Impact

Strengthen the current 13 OSGs and launch at least 17 new OSGs, totaling 30 active groups.
-
Empower local leaders to lead and multiply OSGs in rural and underserved communities.

Why This Will Succeed
Building on OSP Cambodia's foundation, with 13 active OSGs and experienced coordinator Meang, the project is poised for growth. Local church leaders, familiar with the culture and passionate about discipleship, will form the crafting teams.
OSP's approach is effective across nations: simple, reproducible, Spirit-led, and tailored for oral cultures. Our stories are accurate, memorable, and developed through community testing and leadership input. With local ownership and contextual relevance, this project aims to produce lasting spiritual fruit.
